Established in 2019, Planet Earth Press publishes Chicane/x/o history, Mexican American history, queer history, and Southwest history books that draw on archives to preserve overlooked stories through a direct-to-community model. Planet Earth Press carves out a space for more direct, grounded, and unfiltered books that center the lives and experiences of everyday people.

Founded by author Lydia R. Otero, Planet Earth Press is an author-run press focused on books written or compiled in-house.

Since the publication of La Calle: Spatial Conflicts and Urban Renewal in a Southwestern City (2010), Otero established a place-based framework that foregrounded barrios, the working class, and the layered cultural and political histories that shape Arizona and the U.S. Southwest. La Calle opened the door to conversations about race, class, and urban renewal that others continue to build upon.

Planet Earth Press's books have received awards and been reviewed in academic journals as well as in outlets like the Los Angeles Review of Books. Each book is professionally produced and and includes endorsements from scholars and experts in the fields the books engage.​
